The blog belongs to Stephen Murphy, who works for Mirage writing TMNT stories for the comics and cartoon, so he's somewhat of an insider.

I wonder what could Imagi and Mirage be discussing that's holding up the sequel, is it really that big?

so after a month Imagi had one pitch that gets shot down and then its back to the drawingboard for another four months? I can't believe it's really that difficult to come up with a premise for a TMNT sequel.

All you need is the Turtles+ Shredder+ Insane Martial Art/Ninja Action + good marketing = 100 million U.S. boxoffice. Simple.

Was the pitch to Mirage really a comedy-adventure?

Given the amount of money cookie-cutter cgi kid movies have made in recent years, I can understand the reasoning behind the decision, but you also have to realize this would infuriate the TMNT fanbase, just as it would have infuriated the Gatchaman fanbase to turn that movie into a comedy.

Also, they tried this before with the TMNT movie franchise, with the second live-action movie, it was met with less critical a financial success then the first movie.

I don't know what was presented, I had been involved into some visual development. For me, i just want to make it looks darker, fight better, more ninja action...

I truly believe the push for a kinder, gentler TMNT, is coming from the higher ups, I always got the feeling from reading Kevin Monroe's interviews and seeing the corresponding movie and dvd ads that the-powers-that-be would have perferred a movie closer too "Over the Hedge" and other cgi kid movies.

Despite having half of the opening day audience over the age of 13, and after the success of other PG-13 movies, and a general consensus amongst fans and critics alike that TMNT needed more action, the executives apparently haven't learned a thing.

I find it troubling that only a single pitch was produced and it was a comedy, given Peter Laird's negative disposition toward the old cartoon series and the second live-action movie, it was destined to get shot down.

So, does this really mean no TMNT 2?

"7. TMNT 2
Never say Never, but last I heard, Warner Bros are abandoning their plans to do a sequel to last year’s “Ninja Turtles” restart. The plan originally, was to do a further two films – the next would’ve seen the heroes in hardshells taking on old foe, Shredder – in the series. Some initial work had even begun on the next sequel. After the lacklustre performance of “TMNT” though, the studio put the sequels on indefinite hold."

Well, I'm hoping for a TMNT 2. I really enjoyed the first one and know that you guys can a better one that's darker and has more action. And I would love to see Karai as the Shredder.
